POST 02: Art Nouveau

Previously we learned and talked about the Arts and Crafts movement. So it is no surprises that it is followed with the Art Nouveau movement. The Art Nouveau meaning "new art" began in the end of the British Arts and Crafts movement, in 1890. I think, it is interesting how both movements resemble to each other and has the same influences and inspirations when it comes to looking at nature, for example. But, for the Art Nouveau movement it was their "MOST IMPORTANT PRINCIPLE." William Morris, who was the center figure of the Arts and Crafts movement is undeniably one of the most influential artists who inspired the Art Nouveau movement in Europe, alongside John Ruskin and Eugene Viollet- le- Duc. And, as I have discussed previously in the latter post, it is incredible that the unity of arts remained in that period, because the movement was present in architecture, in interiors and designed objects such as jewelry, furniture, etcetera. POST 01: Arts and Crafts

The Arts and Crafts movement is an English movement of the 2 nd half of the 19 th century (1860-1910) that preceded the Industrial Revolution and the Victorian design . Artists, architects, furniture designers and patrons who took part of that movement, wanted to create and produce good designs that are well crafted and neutralize the cheap, vapid, and meaningless ornament produced by the industrials that favored two practices that were hated and harshly criticized by these reformists, which are the mass production aspect and the use of poor materials.
